Rob Ford Still Refuses to Learn

http://www.thestar.com/opinion/editorials/article/1293251--star-s-view-toronto-mayor-rob-ford-brought-ouster-on-himself

Mayor Rob Ford was recently booted from his position as mayor of Toronto. Rather than taking what has happened, and trying to right his wrongs, he's stayed the same and made no efforts to change anything. "With Ford, it's always someone else's fault." This quote here shows us how he doesn't take responsibility for his actions, and would much rather point the finger at someone else to make his life easier. "Outright ignorance of the law will not suffice, nor will willful blindness as to one's obligations." This quote here shows us that he believes the rules don't apply to him. While in charge of Toronto, he was more focused on helping his family's company, and he put coaching highschool  football ahead of his priorities as mayor, so much to the point where he put city staff and resources at the disposal of his team. He was also very 'self-centered' in that he would bully anyone who dared to disagree with him. Through all that has happened, Ford has not tried to turn everything around and try to make everything he did wrong, right again. Is this really what Toronto needed? The fact that he was able to put his own personal needs ahead of his city just goes to show that he was not cut out for this job. As far as I'm concerned, the chances of him becoming mayor again are very slim, what do you guys think?

Seeking Skilled Newcomers

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/1283006--immigration-ontario-seeks-more-power-to-pick-skilled-and-moneyed-newcomers

This article speaks about how Ontario wants more control in the decisions of immigrant selection to help the declining numbers of immigrants coming into Ontario. Choosing the immigrants that get to come into Ontario will help to power the economic growth as well as build stronger communities. The amount of immigrants coming into Canada has dropped by one-third since 2001 to 2011. Only about 52 percent of the immigrants coming into Ontario fall under the "economic" class, whereas in other provinces 7 out of 10 immigrants fall under this label. The new immigrants to Ontario earned 23.2% less than the other provinces in Canada, and had a jobless rate of 15.7 percent.

This article is related to business because, it focuses on how Ontario's labour market needs are not being met. The lack of immigrants, with the necessary skills needed to help the economy is starting to affect Ontario. This is because, the immigrants with "economic" skills are choosing to move to other parts of Canada instead of Ontario and now we can see that new immigrants of Ontario are earning 23.2% less than the other provinces of Canada. We can see how, we here in Canada are dependent on others around the world to help raise our economy. Our businesses are all related world-wide, and it goes to show that if we didn't have other people coming into and working for other countries, most countries wouldn't be where they are today.

Teen Activist Shot by Taliban

http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/1271541--teen-activist-shot-by-the-taliban-headed-to-the-uk

Fourteen year old Malala, a teen activist standing up for girls' education, and overall rights for girls was shot in the head by the Taliban. She was attacked on her way home from school, and two of her friends have also been injured. The bullet she had been shot with had entered her head, and headed toward her spine. Though she has survived, and is stable at this point, the Taliban have threatened to attack relentlessly until they have succeeded in killing her. Malala was moved away from a Pakistani military hospital to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. This hospital is equipped with a major trauma wing focusing on major head injuries, and gunshot wounds. She will need long-term care to recover from psychological and physical trauma she has encountered. She has been able to mover her arms and legs, and the damaged bones in her skull will have to be replaced or fixed. There have been rallies held for this courageous young girl, but the largest one took place when tens of thousands of people gathered around in Southern Karachi, a rally organized by the most powerful government party; Muttahida Quami Movement. The bravery of this fourteen year old girl should be an eye opener for many people around the world. If one little girl can stand up for what she believes in, then imagine what every person in the world could do if they stood up for what they believed in just as she had.
